Purpose Bodies part of TVS Interfleet has showcased its engineering excellence by designing a bespoke transport solution for elite Aqua-bike racer James Bushell. Crafted to meet championship-level demands, the vehicle highlights Purpose Bodies commitment to quality, reliability, and innovative engineering.
When Bushell required a vehicle capable of safely transporting high-performance Aqua-bikes across Europe, Purpose Bodies stepped in with exceptional precision. The vehicle needed to endure extensive travel while offering maximum protection for valuable racing equipment—requirements that perfectly matched Purpose Bodies expertise.
Phil Ashton, Commercial Director of TVS Interfleet, said, “We specialise in commercial vehicle bodies… this was an ideal job for Purpose Bodies.”
From detailed CAD development through to completion, Purpose Bodies ensured each component was meticulously tailored for professional racing logistics.
Central to the design is Purpose Bodies lightweight Recovery/Transporter Beaver Tail Body, expertly fitted to a versatile Maxus chassis supplied by JS Holmes Wisbech. This combination provides optimal functionality, durability, and performance.
Purpose Bodies engineers employed advanced laser cutting technology to create precision aluminium long runners and cross bearers, balancing structural integrity with minimal weight. Robust aluminium plank flooring, featuring specialised vertical-grip paint, offers superior safety and durability. Strategically recessed load-restraint lashing rings ensure secure transportation, while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.
Acknowledging the importance of professional brand representation, Purpose Bodies incorporated a custom aluminium headboard with precision laser-cut branding for Bushell’s premier business, 158 Performance, enhanced by an elegant black backing plate. Additional features include a unique locking spare wheel carrier, mounted on the headboard, and a convenient pull-out ramp system for efficient loading and unloading.
To handle diverse terrains and long journeys, the vehicle features a sophisticated air-assist rear axle suspension system, enhancing ride comfort, stability, and equipment protection. A powerful Samurai winch with radio remote functionality ensures effortless loading, while a detachable tow bar and colour-coded aluminium side skirts, integrated with a recessed toolbox, offer practicality and a refined aesthetic.
Strategically positioned LED roof-mounted loading lights ensure safe, efficient night-time operations. The vehicle also successfully completed rigorous Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) testing, underscoring TVS Interfleet’s dedication to safety and compliance.
This bespoke transport solution is now crucial to Bushell—owner of 158 Performance and a leading competitor in the UIM-ABP Aqua-bike World Championship. His demanding European racing schedule requires a transport solution that meets the high standards of his racing operation.
“This project highlights Purpose Bodies strengths,” stated James Bushell.
Phil Ashton added, “Our ability to translate specialised requirements into precision-engineered solutions sets us apart. Our vehicles consistently combine functionality, reliability, and customised design.”
Purpose Bodies part of TVS Interfleet continues to dominate the market through its successful delivery of precision engineering, custom design solutions, high-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and an in-depth understanding of specialised transport challenges.
