From our workshop floor to your bottom line – the SB Components approach to getting components right first time!
We’ve been in the supply and fit of component business long enough to know that most fleet headaches don’t come from the parts themselves – they come from the gaps between suppliers. You know the drill: the design team blames the fitter, the fitter blames the parts supplier, and meanwhile your truck’s sitting idle earning nothing.
That’s exactly why we built SB Components differently from day one.
Your operation isn’t our template
Here’s the thing – we’ve never met two fleets that are exactly alike. Take last month: we fitted a simple toolbox for a Manchester haulier running regional work, then the following week we’re spec’ing a complete wet kit system for a construction outfit with entirely different route profiles and payload demands.
The regional operator needed fast access and weather protection for daily checks. The construction fleet required high-capacity hydraulics and easy washdown after mucky sites. Same basic need (storage and functionality), completely different solutions.
“We don’t do one-size-fits-all because frankly, it doesn’t work,” explains our Head of Internal Sales, Callum Fendley. “Every conversation starts with understanding your routes, your loads, and your daily reality.”
OEM standards without the OEM limitations
One concern we hear regularly is compatibility. Will aftermarket components play nicely with manufacturer warranties? Will they integrate properly with existing systems?
Fair questions. That’s why everything we design works cleanly with the major OEM’s – DAF, Volvo, Mercedes, Scania, MAN, Iveco, Renault. We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here; we’re making sure our components bolt on seamlessly while maintaining all required safe guards, warranties and standards.
Our toolboxes, catwalks, fuel tanks, steps, and wet kits are all designed to integrate without compromising the vehicle’s original specification. More importantly, they’re Whole Vehicle Type Approved where required, so you’re covered on the compliance front too.
Why we handle design, fit, and aftercare in-house
We could farm out installation to third parties. We could focus purely on supply and leave fitting to someone else. But here’s what we’ve learned from 20+ years in this business: handoffs create problems.
When something needs attention six months down the line, you don’t want to be playing phone tag between the designer, manufacturer, and installer. You want to call one number and speak to people who know exactly what was fitted, when, and how.
That’s what you get with our approach. Same team designs it, same company builds it, same technicians fit it, same people support it. No finger-pointing, no confusion, no delays.
Supply-only or full-service – your choice
Not everyone needs full installation services, and we get that. Some operators have their own workshops and prefer handling fitment internally. No problem – we’ll supply components with full technical support and installation guidance.
But if you want the whole job handled professionally with minimal disruption to your operation, we’ll take care of everything. Our workshop in Wisbech handles installations with appointment scheduling designed around your operational requirements, not our convenience.
The small details that make the difference
Anyone can bolt a toolbox to a chassis rail. What separates good component work from excellent component work is thinking through the details that matter in daily use.
Access points for routine checks. Mounting positions that don’t interfere with maintenance schedules. Finishes that stand up to your operating environment. Drainage considerations for wash-down operations. Cable routing that won’t snag or chafe.
These aren’t glamorous details, but they’re the difference between a component that works and one that works brilliantly for years.
Real talk about downtime
Let’s be honest – every day a truck isn’t earning is money lost. That’s why we approach every project with downtime minimisation as a core priority. Proper planning, pre-fabrication where possible, and efficient installation techniques all contribute to getting you back on the road quickly.
When we quote a job, we’re not just pricing components and labour. We’re factoring in your operational impact and working to minimise it.
What’s next for your fleet?
Whether you’re looking at a single component upgrade or planning modifications across multiple vehicles, we’d welcome the chance to discuss your requirements. Every conversation starts with understanding your specific needs – no pressure, no hard sell, just practical advice from people who understand commercial vehicles.
Because at the end of the day, our job isn’t to sell you components. It’s to solve problems and help your operation run more efficiently. Everything else follows from there.
